Question Cabin Heather

My car is a 2008 E320 Bluetec, and I learned that the heather cabin work with electricity while the engine is cold.
With this being said, will the electric heater go to turn off automatically when the engine gets hot?
The electric heater will gradually off or completely off without temperature decrease?
As the winter is the worse season for windshield fog, other than keep all windows clean, are there any other good ideas to be fog free?
Thanks

You are correct, the W211 (and the W164, W212 and W166) all have a massive electrical duct heater in the HVAC system. This is only used while the engine is cold. The climate controller automatically turns on this heater if it is needed for either defrost or comfort heat. Once the engine temperature warms up enough to provide heat, the electric heater is shut down.

The thing is fed with a 200 A fuse so it is huge! I think I saw in the documentation that it is a 1 kW element so comparable power to a household space heater.

Make sure to leave the A/C switch on all year round, so the system can run the a/c compressor to help dehumidify the cabin, even if it is cold outside it will use the a/c if it feels the need to keep the windows clear. But if you turn the A/C button off it cannot run the compressor.

I wonder in the new W213s with the 42 V system how well that heater works with 3.5x the voltage available.

I did not know that this heather used a so powerful element as described. How many amperes will the electrical system handle if everything is turned on at the same time?
This I mean: rear defroster, heated seats, windshield wipers, lights, and other components.
I know the alternator is 180 A.
Thanks

My diesel GLK250 has the heater too, its awesome getting significant heat within 60-90 seconds of turning on a frozen car! The computer also adjusts shift points and holds the revs a bit higher for the first 3-4 mins of driving to warm up the engine faster (and likely keep the alternator at max output capability) Computer controlled cars!
