Guide Rod Joint Any way to protect boot from dirt?

Have a W126 1985 300SD with bad guide rod joints. Plan to replace both. Is there a way to protect the boot of the guide rod joint? If boot remains intact, dirt should not get to joint to make joint wear faster. Anyone installed an extra rubber boot or plastic shield on the guide rod to protect from guide rod joint from debris?
