300SDL replacement fuel tank

Installing a replacement fuel tank in my 86 300SDL Does the vent tube on the bottom of the tank attach to anything under the car? Any tips on getting it through the rubber grommet would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob Smits

I have never done your specific job but when shoving a metal tubing though a rubber grommet the edge of the tubing wants to act like a cookie cutter on the rubber.

You could get a piece of wood and carve sort of cone shaped insert so the tube has no projecting edges. Or, you can kind of tape around the tube end with duct tape and twist the end to sort of get that cone shape.

The Duct Tape will at least keep the shape edges on the tube from cutting in. It might take 2 layers of tape.

Some sort of lube on the tape might help. I have a bottle of generic Walmart STP I use on tight rubber stuff and O-rings but if I did not have that I would use wheel bearing grease.
