Garrett turbo on the bench. How to disassemble???
It doesn't make sense that you can't get some of the bolts off because as you turn them out, they hit other parts of the housing. Is there some secret here or a good video or instruction piece on disassembling these?

************** sells a how-to vid on this.

If you loosen the bolts to the aluminum compressor housing, you can "clock", or rotate the housing to a different position.
This allows to remove the bolt(s) that would otherwise be blocked from removal. |
After you loosen the bolts some you can tap the exhaust housing away some and that will give you room to loosen the bolts the rest of the way.
In order to rotate/clock the housing as suggested in the other the Exhaust housing has to be loose. |
After you loosen the bolts as much as you can you can tap the exhaust housing away some and that will give you room to loosen the bolts the rest of the way.

It's not tapping away. Tomorrow, I'll try clocking it over if that's possible..
how does the shaft come out? It's still in. |
If you Google or YouTube search T3 turbo rebuild you'll find a million hits. MB T3s are in no way unique. It's probably the most common turbo in 80s OEs and aftermarket today.
