2006 E320 CDI thermostat?
Hey folks,
Just picked up an 06 E320 CDI, 296k miles. Driving it home noticed it seemed like wasnt getting much out of the cabin heat, seemed like I couldnt get it to blow hot. Noticed the engine temp indicator seemed low to me. About what temp Celsius should it be when up to full operating temp? It was hovering around 40. to 50. Celsius Wondering if there is a possibility of stuck open engine cooling thermostat. Thanks! |

Common failure of stuck open thermostat. I've changed 3...2 on the same car. Easy change. Hardest part is getting the fan/shroud out, and even that is not too hard.

Yes sounds like it’s time. They’re like $30 iirc and easy to change. Put a new gasket in too if it doesn’t come with one. Don’t overtighten the 3 bolts though, they will break. (Not that I would know personally
)

Here's a good video:

You're right...my bad. My brain was thinking water pump. Thermostat is even easier.

Update,
I changed out the thermostat. It was real easy to change. Fixed the issue. Engine now warms up to 92C. Does the 211 CDI default to limp mode until it's up to operating temp? when I bought it Car seemed to be stuck in limp mode, would not rev past 3000k rpm and trans would not downshift. Changing the thermostat appears to have fixed this issue ;o)

No it does not default to limp mode until it gets up to operating temperature. Weird that replacing the thermostat resolved the issue.
