W124 300TD spring question

I currently have an '87 300TD and previously owned a '94 E320 wagon. I *think* the later model E320 wagon had a slightly lower ride height than the '87 300TD. I also noticed that the part# for the front springs are different between the models.

Am I correct that the later model W124 wagons had a slightly lower stance than the earlier models? Or is it just an optical illusion due to the body cladding that the later models used.

If the former is correct is it possible to use later model springs on a early model 300TD? Or was the 300TD significantly heavier that I would be creating problems by using later model springs?

Just swap out the springs pads.

The later years were probably heavier, but I suspect your example simply had worn out suspension.

The ride height can be adjusted with different spring pads. New springs generally are needed to restore original ride height (higher). Replacing all the suspension bushings in the rear suspension should also result in an increased height.

Old thread, but I'm hoping someone on here has successfully lowered their W124 300TD without cutting springs, i.e. are there aftermarket springs that would be appropriate for the W124 wagon with the OM603 engine? I know there are H&R springs available for the gas wagons but I'm not sure if they would be ok for for the additional weight of the OM603?

I currently have the stock springs with the 1 nub pads and it sits a little too high in my opinion. Not looking for a drastic drop, more like 30mm or so.
