What's a good price for a 84 300D? $2300?

I spotted a very clean 84 300D on my street for sale. Second owner since new, very clean- no dents, zero rust, always garaged, glossy original paint, professially maintained (recent $1400 in brakes) almost new condition matching tires, MBTex looked like new with exception of a 3" wear spot on driver's seat. Never smoked in.
295,000 miles. I believe the climate control has been maintained being that the car is still currently used in real estate. No reported machanical issues. Reason for sale is the car style is "dated" for real estate use.

Is $2,300 a steal?

Thanks,
DZLPWR

I wouldn't say it is a steal, but a reasonable price, depending on how it runs. I have learned to not worry about what the odometer says, it's how the engine runs that's important. Does the present owner have records for the car? That 3 inch wear spot would be normal. What's the color combo, exterior/interior? My '83 TD is Silver/blue with navy blue MB Tex. I paid $2900 for TD which at the time had only 181K. Had recent A/C work, rear hatch struts replaced and everything worked. It still has the original Becker Europa radio. All I did was put on new Pirelli tires and front Bilstein shocks. Basicly a "turn-key" car, not a fixer-upper. This car you are looking at sounds like a turn-key. I have neighbors who can not believe I bought my TD for $2900. They see how it looks and that it looks that good for a 19 yr old car.

How long did it take to find the TD in that condition for under $3k?

Yes the owner has all records. I have not driven it yet, maybe tomorrow. It's gold with tan (palimino) interior. Similar to what looks like a W116 in the picture behind your wagon.

Rick is right, dont so much worry about what is on the odometer, see how it runs and drives. Is it a steal? No. Is it a fair price? Yes, if it runs and drives great, then you got a good deal.

If there is any interest, my uncle is selling his 84 300D with 180K for $2900.

Considering on what I have spent to get my car running in the kind of condition I am accustomed, its a steal! Go for it! That kinda money will not buy you anthing close to that of the legendary 123. If its as nice as you say, its a steal!

To be honest, I wasn't actually looking for a TD at the time. I own that 300SD in the picture, behind my wagon. My neighbor was thinking of buying a TD and I just happened to find one advertised in the paper. I told him to buy the car or I will since I have always wanted one, but I allready had a Benz. He called the number in the paper to inquirer, but there wasn't anyone home so he left a message. For some reason they never returned his call. That same week the ad disappeared, so I figured the car was sold. 2 weeks go by and the car was in the paper again, this time for $2900, down from $3200. By this time though my neighbor had decided to wait on buying another car, so naturally I inquired about it. Reluctantly, my wife let me buy it. She likes the idea of us owning 2 wagons and also the fact the car has working A/C. It also helps that the car is easier to drive around town and park, than the SD. I have since given the SD to my brother, who likes Mercedes but isn't mechanicaly inclined enough to sort an old car out. So I gave him one that was already sorted out.
