Low Serial number - 1984 300TD

This really doesn’t affect the way my car runs in any way, but just acquired an ‘84 300TD with Vin 000065.

Does that mean it is the 65th 300TD wagon for 84, or were all 123 chassis lumped together and it is 65 off the line for the whole series?

Just pure curiosity.....

Thanks!

I'm only aware that they reset the numbers with each chassis change. Like my '82 300CD is chassis type 123.153 meaning a turbo coupe - it's S/N 000001 built 08/81, making it the first CD turbo. But other cars I've seen built very early in a given model year didn't have extremely low serial numbers so it would seem it wasn't reset every year.
