adjusted the valves, now the engine won't shut off and trans shifts quickly
i am the proud new owner of my first diesel, a 1985 300d turbo.
with having 267,000 miles and no previous history, i am performing all maintenance items to get her up to speed. after adjusting the valves today the engine now will not shut of via the ignition key and the transmission shifts quickly and rather harsh. where should i look to correct the problems? what did i do? btw, this is a great site guys! thanks, rob |

Welcome Rob:
It could be 2 things. First like bill said, the vacuum line may have come off or loose. Even if they look connected press them in good. Also make sure rubber connectors are not cracked. Second make sure that all the connecting rods( linkages) that you took off during removal of valve cover are reattached right. Good luck. MVK
