1985 300D - What's the brake light circuit have to do with the glow plug circuit?

Hey guys. Haven't had an OM617 in a few years, ended up picking one up a couple of days ago for near scrap price. It's an 85 w123.

I had no brake lights. I unhooked the brake petal button, and there are two pins. When applying 12v to one pin, the brake lights light up as expected. But when feeding 12v to the other pin, it causes the glow plug relay to click. Any ideas before I start trying to figure it out?

Glad to be back in the community.
