Engine serial number

Wher on th engine can it be found. I'm still clearing the crud off of it but haven't found it.

On the 240D it is on the block above where the oil filter housing bolts on. Look for the flat spot right below the head/block interface in this location.

It is on a vertical surface so it does not show up well unless it is clean.... or even then if you wear bifocals....
