Euro cars, need Euro tires, IMHO. I use Michelin or Pirelli on my MB or VW cars.

Another happy General Altimax RT43 customer here. I've put two sets on my Golf (first set exceeded 50k miles) and decided to have a go on my '91 300D. Very happy with them.

Have fun putting $600 michelins on your ~100 hp/$3000 cars. I’ve been using Walmarts $50 Douglas tires. Grip well enough, made in the USA and decent comfort.

Apples seem to be a lot more expensive than oranges when you price apples by the basket and oranges by the pound.

Douglas tires???
The Michelin's aren't $600 per tire. That's for a set. Your $50 Douglas tires = $200 for a set of 4 plus about $60 to put them on, plus tire disposal fee plus tax and you're up to about $350. I'm also wondering if those Douglas tires are H rated like they're supposed to be. The Michelin Defenders I had are T rated but Michelin said they would do the job for my car. I don't think other T rated tires are suitable.

Not really. It’s tires vs tires. Just because a certain brand makes you feel a certain way doesn’t make it a different kettle of fish.

Very well, then. Just show me where I can buy a set of new Douglas tires for $50. I can't do that at my local Walmart.

And fwiw, my michelins were around $400 installed. The apples to apples comparison is $400 to $250.

My michelins were made in Thailand. Is that euro enough?

I read it as a longevity vs price thing. Maybe he can clarify.
I just bought an early 2000’s Camry I4 for $2000. It had a set of brand new Michelins on it. They were probably equal to 25% of the purchase price of the entire car. People spend $120-140 per tire When they can get adequate performance for $50. It really makes no sense. Same goes for uber expensive oils. I have a couple of cars for cheap airport transportation when i go away for work in addition to the nicer stuff. Diesel benz gets wear items that commensurate with its mission The Metris Gets synthetic because it needs it. The Guzzi Gets proper Ester based lubrications and Michelin pilot 4’s because it needs it. The P-Navajo gets DINO because it needs it |

My W123 has never had anything but Michelin on it. They usually dry rot before they wear out. However I just put a set of Continentals on my E250 and really like them. It may not handle quite as well but man are they smooth.
Put a set on my Explorer too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I used some mx4s many moons ago and found them to be too soft for my type of driving.
