Euro cars, need Euro tires, IMHO. I use Michelin or Pirelli on my MB or VW cars.

Another happy General Altimax RT43 customer here. I've put two sets on my Golf (first set exceeded 50k miles) and decided to have a go on my '91 300D. Very happy with them.

My W123 has never had anything but Michelin on it. They usually dry rot before they wear out. However I just put a set of Continentals on my E250 and really like them. It may not handle quite as well but man are they smooth.

Put a set on my Explorer too.

I used some mx4s many moons ago and found them to be too soft for my type of driving.

Tried them all

Now i use Sumitomo on the 300D. low cost - quiet - good handling and good in the rain.

I use Hakkapeliitta on a second set of rims for the winter

Have fun putting $600 michelins on your ~100 hp/$3000 cars. I’ve been using Walmarts $50 Douglas tires. Grip well enough, made in the USA and decent comfort.

Apples seem to be a lot more expensive than oranges when you price apples by the basket and oranges by the pound.

Not really. It’s tires vs tires. Just because a certain brand makes you feel a certain way doesn’t make it a different kettle of fish.

My michelins were made in Thailand. Is that euro enough?

Very well, then. Just show me where I can buy a set of new Douglas tires for $50. I can't do that at my local Walmart.

Post Another Michelin Up Vote

I usually need to replace my Michelin tires due to dry rot before they get seriously worn down and i like to drive quickly if not (IMO) really fast .

I've had a fe that suffered edge wear from mis alignment or my bashing curbs but they grip well (no squealing noises, those come from my occasional passengers) and seem to wear like iron .

Unlike many, I keep a sharp eye on the tire pressures and tend to run slightly higher pressure than the label suggests .

Everyone should try chalking or striping their tires to discern the proper inflation pressure for their particular vehicle , loads and driving habits .

I've never had to reduce cold tire pressures, only raise them up .

I've used Michelin for over a 15 years. Never had an issue. They've always impressed me.

Now a moot point as sadly, Michelin has discontinued the 195/ 70 R13 tyre size, so your next best option is the Continental Ecocontact 6 (if available) - excellent tyre and it is made in the factory correct 175/ 80 R14 size.

What he meant was, comparing a set of four Michelin tires at $600(?) to a single walmart tire at $50 is a facile comparison.

And fwiw, my michelins were around $400 installed.

The apples to apples comparison is $400 to $250.
