Wrong Timing Chain Tensioner???
I have an 82 300D turbo and had the chain tensioner fail. Upon removal and ordering of the replacement, I've noticed they are quite different. The new one is apparently the proper one for turbos only, however, I don't have the end cap for it and it is no longer available to purchase AND I can't find it anywhere!
I have the tensioner, spring and gasket... just no cap! So that's why I assume the PO put this one in because the full assemblies are readily available. Can I continue to use this type of tensioner??? I just need that damn end cap! It's listed as a 19mm bolt in the haynes book... |

So I assume the old end cap doesn't fit on the new tensioner?
Does the old tensioner have little ribs on the interior bore? I have an extra end cap for a turbo tensioner, if you want used. Send me a PM if you want it. |

Correct. It's a bit wider diameter and a 22mm size bolt. The proper one should be a 19mm bolt... DM Sent! Life saver!

Still searching for this part. I've been on eBay for days strait, no luck.
Slim pickings at the junkyard... I'll try a post in the for sale/wanted as well. Curious though... are these tensioners interchangeable?? Can I get away with the non turbo version just to get me rolling again??? |
