Post W123 Wagon Headrests

My gray market 1985 300TD came sans rear head rests so I got some nice ones from sedans, cleaned and installed them .

A member here who knows I try to sweat the details reminded me the wagon rear head rests look the same but on fact are slightly different in that they don't pivot .

Sigh .

Recently my local LKQ put out a really filthy 300TD and the head rests were nearly black with grimy hands prints, I bought them anyways, cleaned them up and swapped out the sedan ones, they look great now (thanx to Meguiar's # 41 cleaner and a lot of elbow grease with soft brushes and clean rags) they're Palomino color and the piping matches the fronts too .

Onwards, ever onwards .

Too bad I can't post the photos of them filthy and clean .

Got headrests?

I wonder where all the 123 wagon headrests ended up?

Before I ever owned a Mercedes I was convinced the wagons never had rear headrests, as I have never even seen a photo of a wagon with them, and I have heard a lot of people say the seats don't work with headrests

well anyways my wagon came with nice headrests in the back and I was pretty surprised. The funny thing is I don't even keep the headrests in the car because you actually can't fold the back seats down with the headrests in place. I feel like I'm doing something wrong because why would Mercedes design the best car in the world but forget about this pretty significant issue?

You remove them and insert them into holes in the seat bottom after it is flipped up.

Post Where Do They Go ?

I'm sure they wind up wherever the middle and third seats from old Suburbans and VW vans etc. all wound up....

Over the decades I've seen plenty of pristine middle & rear seats in the back of garages or sipmly discarded .

Most original W123 wagon owners were just too lazy so once the head rests were removed they never got re installed .

I thought only the wagons with the 3rd row seat had headrests that wouldn’t pivot.

My black wagon has the 3rd row and was missing the 3 headrests. I drove 5 hours each way to get the non-pivoting headrests from a salvage car (also pulled the 3rd seat and other goodies)

My gold wagon has the cargo cover, 2 headrests and they do pivot.

Question

Does your gold wagon have the place for the third head rest ? .

I thought most wagons didn't have rear headrests. Maybe if you got the cargo cover you got 2 second row pivoting headrests? The 3rd row option got you 3 non-pivoting headrests? Thats the way mine are.
