1985 300D bowden cable replacement?

I suspect that my bowden cable needs replacement on my 300D. What is involved in removing and reinstalling this cable at the tranny end? I am assuming that I have to drop the pan to release the cable because I can't see any way to release it external to the tranny.
thanks

I think it is stretched too much. Doesn't make alot of difference when adjusted. I suspect it is original and the car is showing 234,xxx miles.

Yes! you'll have to drop the pan. A pair of long needle piler will help.

I got the cable changed this morning. It is a pretty good job - have to drop the valve body. Anyway, I have it adjusted out and I can't tell where there is any difference. The car is in high gear by the time it gets to 20-30 mph, even when you floor it. While I had the valve body out I looked at everything real good and did not see anything out of the ordinary. The "plunger" that the bowden cable moves looks like it moves alright. Anybody got any other thoughts. The tranny shifts fine manually with just a slight amount of flare between 2-3rd gear.

Is anyone familiar with replacing the Bowden cable on a 1987 300D? Mine is broken on the threads of the white adjusting knob. Does the transmission pan need to be removed on this car as well?

Thanks.

Is it like the SL's with the adjustable rod that attatches to the throttle linkage? If so, is the cable moving as soon as the linkage starts to come off idle? Or is there some slop somewhere else?

The "control"pressure or "throttle" pressure cable is the same orientation on all MB trannies that have it 722.3, 4, and 5.

Mine seems to work properly, but the little white twist knob is broken right at the threads. I was hoping it could be repaired or replaced, but I'm afraid the entire cable assy is going to need replacement. Any thoughts?
