All widows stopped working at once ...

... when I disconnected them while doing the shifter bushing replacement thing as described here:

https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Mercedes-W123/117-INTERIOR-Shifter_Bushings_Replacement/117-INTERIOR-Shifter_Bushings_Replacement.htm

The tutorial is good, I'm really happy with the results, the thing with the windows is surely not their fault.

Is a wee bit bothersome however. Both the fuses are still good, I hadn't disconnected the battery ground, maybe I should have, who knows. Disconnecting the wiring hubs in that manner is usually trouble free.

Just wondering if anyone else encountered and solved the same problem. I'm driving it now and using the sun roof for fresh air.

Have you got the window lockout switch activated? I don't remember if it disables all the windows or just the rear.

That happened to me when one was down, suddenly no windows worked. Turned out to be the relay.

That’s the little button between the switches, the driver side and the rear left? I think that’s it anyway, I pressed it and tried it several times going back-and-forth, didn’t make a difference.

Good tip, thanks. I’m still learning my way around this car, that’s something I should’ve thought of. I had two BMW E30 325i models, DDs for about 15 years, I had quite the collection of relays harvested from boneyards. I could wait a few days for one from Pelican or I could go to the Newark (CA) Pick n Pull tomorrow and make that quarter mile walk back to the euro section. There are a couple of other parts I want to look for anyway. They have a couple of W123s and a recently added 300SD that looks pretty good in the photo. I have a couple of screen shots of the relay on my iPhone, could probably tell from the schematic and pin layout if a 126 item was the same.

I called the local MB dealer for the heck of it, they don’t have it, she doesn’t know when they’re going to come in, and didn’t even have a price she could give me.

Find a wiring diagram and start checking for power at the switches etc...

Maybe someone has a link because it's essential when diagnosing electrical faults

Oops, response part two. I was looking closer, turns out I forgot to plug in the jack for that cut out switch. It all works fine now. Sort of a “DOH!” moment but I’m glad I spotted it, and your input got me thinking in that direction.

This is all good food for thought, the wiring diagram as well. For now I’m glad the solution was easy. I have enough projects on the back burner for the moment.

I can put that long walk at the Newark Pick n Pull off for a few more days.

I did not read all of the Posts so this could be a repeat of info.

On my 84 300D the #12 fuse powers the Power Window Relay. When that fuse goes none of the windows work. Note that Fuse is shared with other items. That means on mine there is 3 fuses that can cause power window issues.

I suppose the Power Window Relay itself could also go bad but I have never read of anyone replacing it.

Try jiggling the key with one of the window switches depressed. The ignition switch sometimes wears and causes weird issues like the climate control not working.

That's good to know. I'll have to look at the guide on the backside of the fuse cover again but pretty sure that isn't mentioned. Just the a and b fuses.

Could be the wording; it has "relay window lift Term 86" Note that is on my 84 300D.

In the wiring diagram in post #7 you can see fuse #12 at the upper left.
