Exhaust system died today... :(
I realized today that my car was all of the sudden REALLY loud. I haven't done anything out of the ordinary. And bottoming out won't hit the exhaust system since there are belly pans that cover the pipes. It sounds like it's broken at the resonator, since it's right under the dash board. I should pop the hood and inspect the headers.
What's a complete new exhaust system (minus headers) cost? I've heard these mercedes exhaust systems do rust out. Since tomorrow is the 4th I can't take it in for it to be replaced. Looks like I have to drive the jeep tomorrow!

190D22,
I just had a great experience with the aftermarket supplier of guaranteed for life, 304 Stainless Steel exhaust systems called TimeValve (www.timevalve.com). I bought the replacement system aft of the catalytic converter for my 1986 190E 2.3-16 from them as the original rusted and broke at the muffler a couple of times and I could not get anyone to weld it back together again. That was at about 70,000 miles in around 1990 or 1991. A few months ago I gave the car to my son with 205,000 miles. We just had the head rebuilt and it was apparent with the car on the lift that the resonator had some failed welds and was getting pretty noisy. TimeValve happens to be in CT and not too far from where I live, so I called them. They made an arrangement to examine the car on a Saturday just to verify it was their stuff that had failed, mainly because I could not find the receipt. To make a long story short, they fixed it free, no receipt, no questions asked. They are pretty reasonably priced and their stuff fit my car as well as any OEM system (and I have installed quite a few of them). They were about half the MB price, and they came with a lifetime warranty. Not bad. So, give them a try. The complete system price from the manifold down to the rear bumper is $475. If you don't need the pipe directly from the manifold to the rest, it is $385. Guaranteed for life. Not a bad price. Good luck, Jim

Well I will probably get my stuff from www.germanstar.net. His prices are the best around, hands down. The stock exhaust lasted 18 years with no problems, hopefully a new one will last as long. I am hoping that it's just something come loose and not a hole! I will update you on what I find. It's so loud!

Well my local shop litterally down the street took me in. They have to check it out and see if they have to order parts. I take back what I said about it being stock... the resonator and muffler look replaced. The front pipe doesn't look replaced. So maybe they will just replace from the manifold to the resonator I don't know. If they have to order parts in or not I am getting it back today, I can't stand leaving the baby benz anywhere. I don't trust people... I locked my glove box and trunk and gave them the valet key!
