Does anyone know if this will work on my car?

This past 2 months I've been looking for a power steering box for my 84 300D. I finally stumbled upon one on eBay,, but I cannot find any specific information on it on whether it will work on my car or not. The owner is unsure as well. My old power steering box has no markings on it whatsoever the #part number is etched out.

Anyways here is the part https://www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Benz-R107-W116-W123-280SL-450SL-300D-Power-Steering-Box-R1164610401-OEM-/304058844069?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l6249&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0

If you need a steering box, you should contact Martureo on this forum.
He is the trusted source for everything steering box related.
He rebuilds and sells steering boxes for these cars and I had him rebuild my steering box.
Don't take any chances on ebay.

No leaks from mine, but both are at the extent of the adjustment on the sector shaft and still slight play. I've checked many in the junkyard and all were also at the limit, except one. Thought I lucked out, but I adjusted out the play to be sure before going to the effort of removing it. Turned out it was also showing ~6 threads on the adjustment bolt (screw outward to remove play). I wonder how they were driving that car with so much play.

I do have a used box I'll play with. Perhaps just replacing the recirculating balls will remove the play. BTW, I know the 300SD box differs from the 300D in 1982-85 cars, with different mounting holes.

The ebay listing shows a 116 part number. I don't think that's the right one. I did a steering box on my '83 recently (reman from Pelican) and the PN was 123-460-58-01-88

Ended up not buying it. Found someone on the forum to rebuild my steering box for a really good price.

With steering boxes, unless you're using the part number to order one from a dealer (NLA), you've probably got the wrong number.

The number in the listing is the part number of the casing, its visible on the side of the box in raised characters. All w123 boxes have that 116 part number in that location. There's also one on the pitman arm cover and another on the pitman arm itself. These are all the individual part numbers for those components.

The real way to identify the steering box is to look at the mounting bolt pattern on the back. w123s differ significantly from w126s or r107s. Then I'd check the features: automatic compensation, power assist piston cover style, hydraulic fitting style, internal stop indication mark and pitman arm style. That's how I identify boxes and make sure they don't get mixed up.
