126 Hood Cable Adjustment

The hood release cable on my 1984 300SD is having difficulty opening my hood. I have to pull the lever all the way and sometimes the hood will not release. It looks like there is a threaded coupling on the cable on the driver's side near the fender. I assume that I would tighten the two sections so they become closer, but I'm not sure that is helping and I don't want to damage anything. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank in advance

Lube ever thing very well, adjust latches (cables)to open one then the other.
Do lube the catch in hood.

To reduce the lever travel lengthen the threaded cable housing adjuster.
