Radiator shroud measurements

Hoping someone might have radiator shrouds or cars.

I need a radiator for my 1991 350sd. Mine is damaged.

It looks to me that potentially the 1985 300sd radiator could fit if the lower reservoir connection was plugged. This could provide benefits on cost and OE quality.

But I’m not sure if my OE 1991 shroud would fit in the slots. I’m not sure if the slot spacing and locations are consistently the same.

Hoping someone might be able to have a look. This would help me order parts.

Thanks

No. I don’t know what actually fits. For example I read that the 603 fan and shroud goes lower than the 617 version so the fan would hit the transmission cooler connections. But I have no way to verify that.

Job #1 is just to know if the tabs for the shroud are common across 617 and 603 w126 cars.

I recommend getting the right part if you find it won't fit. I would be surprised if it does.

Unfortunately the w126 OM603 radiator has been NLA for years. Only a welded all aluminum variety from China exists.

I scratch my head now it wouldn’t fit. The w126 front end didn’t change from gen 1-2. The radiator mounting holes at the bottom didn’t change. The drain plug location didn’t either. The big deltas would be location of the inlet and/or outlet since the gen 1 radiator is less wide.

The w124 300TD looks like a closer fit, but the AT cooler lines are on the side. They could probably be custom made without a huge issue.

So it’s essentially, make a quality Nissens unit work, or get a Chinese one that has dubious quality.

Look up the part no.s for the various engines of interest. Some may be the same across engines. Then you have found what matches perfectly for sure. I have a shroud from a W126 diesel laying around somewhere, but don't recall what it was off but it prolly has a part number. What dimension do you need? Can you show that on a photo?

I tripped it today. The part no is 126 505 06 55 and they seem to be commonly available new. It has a cut out on the lower driver side fan side. ( round) . BEHR. Need a dimension?

It is this: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/1265050655.htm?pn=126-505-06-55-INT

Says

For select models of 300TD, 300SD, 300D, 300CD these guys list many models for fit: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-mercedes-benz-parts/fan-shroud/1265050655/#tabDoesItFit

Thanks. Good to know it’s available. What I need to know though is the dimensions of the tabs that connect to the radiator at top and bottom. The real question is if the shroud that I have for my 603 engine with its larger radiator would fit with a 617 radiator retrofit to it since the 603 radiators are NLA.

I am happy to go measure it. You want the height of the tabs off the main body, their width, distance between, and distance from the sides? errrr.... what?
