car smashed while parked!
My 84 SD was sitting in front of the house while I was in the garage
when I hear this crash. Went outside to see my car smashed! An elderly woman in a huge Dodge Ram panel van had drifted across the street and smashed into my driver front corner. Pushed the car back 4 feet I think she was on her phone. Police came. Fire Dept EMT came. She seemed pretty confused and they ended up taking her away on a stretcher. Nobody was hurt. Hate to think what might have happened if I'd been under the hood or under the car ![]() Jeff

Another view. You can see the white van that hit me in the background
And to top it all off this is my wife and my 33rd anniversary!

Oh so sorry to read this. Such a great color car, and looks very clean.
Unfortunately if you have a standard policy, prepare to be screwed. Start collecting comps and classic valuations for the car. Be ready to sue. That really stinks. Good luck.

Euro bumper but no wiper? If you had had the diving boards it would have bounced right off LOL .
One of the few times I got hit was a blind old lady who came across 4 lanes to clip me waiting to pull into the street. Check the kelly BB classic. She owes you over $10K |

Maybe. There are nice sorted examples of these cars for less. We don’t know all the details of this one. But I do suspect a cream yellow w126 is a relative rarity.
The big issue is, unless op has stated value insurance. It’s going to be a fight. I agree 100% to use kbb classic as a starting point, and gather info from there. A regular insurance company/policy will look to a dealer trade in type guide to total the car for scrap.

Everyone's parking situation is different and unique. that said, there is another discussion on another thread concerning collector insurance company's requirement to keep a collector car in a garage or other enclosure (barn, etc.)
Once upon a time there was a neighbor who kept their car on the street very close to an intersection. One day I was coming home and had a friend in the car who saw it and said, "someday someone is going to come around that corner too fast and rear end that car". Guess what? a few months later it happened. Last edited by qualified-merc; 12-30-2023 at 01:44 PM. |

more pix
Sending more pix. I have zero experience in collision repair and what and
want cannot be fixed. The car starts and runs fine. The hood will not open and the driver door will open and barely touches the fender. radiator is OK. I won't be able to get it to a shop until next week as everyone is closed until after new years. Jeff

You will need a shop that is mercedes benz qualified and approved for mercedes body work/collision repair. In my experience this may involve looking around at larger cities to locate a qualified body shop. A jerk-off hit mine a few years back and I made the mistake of taking the car to a less-than-qualified body shop. I've regretted it ever since.

If it was hit above the frame rail/horn it should be fixable without a ton of work. Car looks like a nice example.

Took the bumper off so I could turn and straighten the wheels.
From what I can tell it looks good. The Euro bumper bent around the frame. I'm thinking that if I had the original stiffer bumper it might have bent the frame. The only real damage I see is the flange where the bumper attaches is bent. I live in Sacramento so plenty of shops here. I'm asking around to friends, but if anyone has a suggestion of a shop to go to here that would be greatly appreciated. Jeff
