Does anyone have this part to sell?

This is a NLA part. The one shown here is similar, but too long by about 2 inches, and cutting it would ruin it. Welding it would probably ruin the end pieces; the heat would melt the plastic. Maybe they're metal, not sure.

On my 1991 300d, it's the only accelerator ball and socket rod that goes vertically. All the others are horizontal.

I think the original part number for my car was 0000706975, with a few reiterations of it with different numbers later.

I have a bunch of metal ends and varous length rods and made one when I owned my 92. Alternatively look at ball and socket items at a hardware store. I don't think I could send you one now since I am in Canada.

My mechanic said if I weld it, it will melt the plastic end. What's your take on this?

Post a picture of your actual part. If yours is 2inches too long cut it in the middle and tig weld it back together. If you mechanic still pisses and moans. Mail me the damn rod with an exact measurement from center of ball to center of ball and I'll weld the thing for you. No charge, just pay shipping. PM if you want my help.

Just reach out to the random person? Or does this person have a business site to contact at?

Some may exist overseas. I have bought NLA parts from Poland with no problems, even uber rare pre-merger AMG parts.

Found this: https://2407.pl/en/mercedes-brand/traction-000-070-69-75-18765000/

and

https://welldoneparts.com/en/about-us/

If you go overseas, I suggest always asking first if they really have it in stock. Of course, it is a trade off with price vs. time and effort making one.

Those plastic ends -- could you 3-D print them. I ask since I had the W116 rear heated seat pods (go on the B pillar) and the black bezel 3-D printed when 3-D printing was just starting to go commercial. I got some quotes for some parts recently, and pricing is shockingly low. Getting the CAD drawings is the first step, which means having one in hand. The rod appears to be listed as 200mm. If you had one of the plastic ends, you may be surpricsed at the price for new 3-D printed ends.

I just clicked the link and there are three in stock. Aren’t these actually threaded on the end? Not to be infinitely adjustable like the old 617 ones, but just as a means of affixing the end…?

Lots of different ones in stock on eBay used from time to time. Different lengths but cut down and cut threads is viable.
