W126 Hood catch release not extending when hood popped

Hi,

On my 86 300SDL the grille was damaged in a recent accident and subsequently replaced. The part you pull on to release the hood to go up also got broken and was replaced.

Unfortunately the body shop that put the new one in did not do it in a way in which it pops out when the hood catch is pulled from inside the car. Now my only option is using the pliars to force it out and then once its comes out, it is not stuck, the hood opens fine.

Being this is light plastic and that I have already used the pliars a few times I really need to get this fixed. Any ideas on what could be holding this in or not allowing it to extend when it should? Thanks.
