'92 300D 2.5 Turbo FS, Fair Price?
Dieselers -
My in-laws have decided to sell their 1992 300D 2.5 Turbo, and have asked me to deal with it. Here's the scoop: Pearl black with grey tex interior. They are the second owners of the car, and they have put about half the miles. Right now it has 162,697 on the chassis, and just under 80K on the engine. The engine was a used unit from Atlanta-Stuttgart and came with 49K on it. It was installed in April, 2001. The engine swap was the result of the timing chain snapping. This engine was installed by the head mechanic at the local Mercedes dealer, who has also done all other major work on the car since they bought it. As I recall, they bought it about three years ago. Physically, the car is in very clean condition. My father-in-law is somewhat fanatical about keeping cars waxed and running them on synthetic oil. It is currently located in Salem, CT. Being that the market for these cars is fairly narrow, I haven't had a whole lot of luck finding comparison prices, but I figure it should be somewhere around $11K. What do you all think? Incidentally, if anyone is interested, email me offline at hitch02@attglobal.net. Thanks, all! -Reed '84 300D-T '70 BMW 2800 |

According to the Kelly Blue Book website, the private party value on the car in question is around $10,500-$11,000.

That sounds like a reasonable price to me. You are likely to pay a little more for a car with a good maintenence history. I bought a 92 300D 2.5 last fall for $11000. Your car is worth every penny of 10 to 11g's.
One question: What was the cause of the timing chain failure? Was that repaired with the replaced engine? |
