trailer hitch 1985 300TD

Has anyone installed a trailer hitch on a 300TD? I'd like to install one on mine. It looks as though the vacuum reservoir is immediately behind the bumper and the fuel tank just beyond that. To what does the hitch attach? Where did you purchase the hitch? Any particular problems on installation? I know it's possible to install one since I saw one on a TD on eBay.

I wrestled with the idea for a long time and couldn't figure out how to do a custom one. I finally gave up and put one on the sedan (still very much a custom design). It functions more like a bumper hitch rather than true-blue hitch.

I was afraid to order one for the TD because its a grey-market beast and is slightly different than the typical design.

I'll be following this thread to see what others have tried.

I had one put on my 190e. They took the back bumper off and welded on something (can't see it.) All you see is the reciever sticking out through the cladding just below the bumper.

Check out www.hitch-web.com They show one model of hitch available for the wagon ( 3 or 4 different ones for sedans). You can download a pdf of the installation instructions.
