Talking 300SDL Euro Light Install - Pics

Enough here have emphasized the dramatic improvement, both in safety and in style, that can be gained by installing euro lights. I was expecting a lot, and got even more. Here's a few pics I snapped during the install:

Every time I try the pic it says "photo not available."

What is different about the beam pattern compaired to your U.S. lights?

BJ,

What link are you trying? Try hitting "F5" button to update it.

There is a remarkable difference in beam pattern. With the euros you get something to the effect of _/_/, with a very pronounced, evenly lit area immediately in front of the car, as well as the road shoulders. The US lights simply throw a couple sprays of light in front of you that don't allow you to see what is immediately in your path. I found the following link helpful for details on the upgrade: http://www.dimebank.com/Light-up.html.

I can't wait to see the pic's.

That is the next upgrade I am getting for our car. I hope I am happy with the results.

Was it really that difficult?

What about the vacuum adjustment, wiring, and the euro city lights?

I want to upgrade my '85 SD but have a few questions. Where sis you purchase? How long did it take you? Any special tools? What about the plug adapter to go from sealed beam to the new halogen bulbs????? Does it come with the kit?

I just replaced the image links with a link to the site that is hosting them. Again, they work for me. I have never felt so technically incompetent.

vw - I purchased mine from Capitol West (www.capitolwest.com). My experience was very positive: good prices and great service. They ship with the wire adapters and, in my case, I opted for the wiper retrofit kit which worked beautifully. This doesn't apply to your car. If I consider the fact that you won't have to deal with the wiper retrofit, which was a PITA, I estimate ~45 minutes/side. PLEASE be sure to properly aim the lights after installing them. Daniel Stern has an excellent write up on this procedure - http://lighting.mbz.org/tech/aim/aim.html Good luck.
