Repost - help - where does the ground wire connect to the frame - quick start relay
Hi everybody
Sorry in advance for being impatient, but I dread tracking down one wire in a harness. Does anybody know the answer? Give me a Christmas present of knowledge? ;-)
Does anyone know where the ground wire, from the 4 pin connector leading to the glow plug relay (quick start), actually connects to the chasis? This is a 1982 300SD.
I am curious becuase the relay failed on the car. It appears to be brand new on the inside based on the condition of the points and the rest of the circuit board. I am concerned because I have ordered a new relay and 5 glow plugs. Something caused the what-appears-to-be-new relay to fail. I checked the resistance of the wire to the chasis and seems fine, but I want to get to the connection point of the ground to ensure a good connection. I have already disassembled the 4-pin plug, cleaned the connectors (were like new) and crimped them a bit to make them fit tighter onto the relay pins. I don't want to plug in the new relay I ordered and have it fail right away. Something caused the installed one to fail. The glow plugs check out just fine. I checked both at the glow plug and from the 5 pin connector.
Any other ideas as to why an apparently new relay would fail?
And can you also tell me where the driver's side headlight's ground connection point is as well? I put two brand new bulbs in and this one is just a tad dimmer than the pax side.
Gotta tell ya - this forum is great for a first-diesel owner. I hope I can contribute one day instead of bothering everyone with questions!
Thanks
Fred Konchan
