Question Putting in new Rad...

Hi

OK, benz is getting a present...new rad, not that it had one when I bought it...anyway. Um, so...bleeding tips? Does it need it? Where does that the lil hose at near the cap go?

Anything else?

Thanks,
-Kurt

It would be helpful to know more about your car (model and year) than it just being a Mercedes.

Looking in my manual-

Looks like most models had bleed valves on top of the T-stat housing. Make sure the heater control is on too=)

What else? Hey with a new fancy radiator you are putting in Mercedes coolant right?? There's a block drain under the intake manifold if you need to get rid of all the old coolant.

If you are putting in a new radiator, why not do the full job. I would pull out the thermostat and with the radiator hoses unhooked, back flush the block with a good pressure hose nozzle. Replace the top and bottom hoses and put a new thermostat in also. I drill a small (1/16th hole) in the thermostat, on the flat part to help it bleed out easier. This doesn't have any effect on how it cools or anything. While the radiator is out, take a hose nozzle and flush clean the A/C condensor of bugs and debris. Do it from the engine side towards the front of the car. Look up the cooling system capacity and add the required amount of coolant first. There is always some residual water left behind after a flush and this will insure that you get the proper 50/50 mix. Also, use distilled or de-ionized water for the mix. Replace the pressure cap also. When first running, keep a GOOD EYE on the temp guage in case it has not bled right. They will not circulate if there is air in the system. You can loosen one of the sensors on the thermostat neck while it is running to bleed out the air. Chris
