I had turn signals that stopped working but started after I applied the Hazard switch and turned it of. Doing that when the turn signals did not work kept the turn signals going for another 3 months.
When the turn signals stopped I replaced the hazard switch and the turn signals have worked ever since.

Other did not use an method of troubleshooting. It was just guess from the symptoms that the Hazard Switch seemed to wag the turn signals.

My Wife likes to thump her purse down on the Counsel. After replacement of the switch I told her she should stop doing that. But, don't know what she does when I am not there.

Note that it was enough years back that I don't remember if I read any threads on it and saw that other people were also saying there is a good chance it was the Emergency Flasher Switch but I don't remember reading about jumping the terminals.

Post M-B Rocker Switches

FWIW ;

All those various rockers switches that are so poorly placed, are simple to take apart and clean the contacts so they work As New again .

My big brother has been using my coupe and of course he eats his bagels and drinks his coffee in the car after I asked him not to, I go to use it the the window switches are all gunked up and I wasn't sure I'd be able to close the driver's window.... .

I have some window switches cleaned and ready to go, I hope to replace these nasty ones and clean my coupe's interior soon .

You may get lucky, if not then move on to the relays and flasher.
22 years later, and this advice is still spot on. I turned it on, got four flashing lights, that made me smile, sure enough, I turned it off and turn signals work just fine.

That is what solved my problem when I had the same one.

My wife thumps her purse down on top of the hazard switch. I think that is what finished it off.
