I'm working on a guys '87 300sdl and the strip fuse blew on the glow plug relay. Some guy told me that they were 30 amp but that sounds too small. A 5cyl takes a 80 amp. HELP! Chris

30A is for the blower motor.

80A is for the glow plugs.

Thanks Guys!!, I thought that 30 was too small. Even though the '87 is a 6 cyl, it takes the same fuse size as a 5 cyl? I figured that an extra glow plug, extra amperage needed. Chris

The manual says that each plug should draw 8-15 amps. I guess they can't all draw 15 amps in an SDL.

80 A strap fuse on the relay. If it just cracked, replace it (two screws) and don't worry. If it actually blew (melted and arced), find the short in the wires to the glow plugs before using them again!

Thanks again. I think that the screws loosened and caused extra resistance. I checked each glow plug and each wire and they were ok. I have had these foil fuses blow before because the screws were loose. Thanks, Chris
