Climate control expert needed.
So here is my problem. Air only blows out the vents when the dial is positioned in the blue area. When I hit the defrost button or move the dial to the warmer temperature settings, it is like the vents close. The fan is still running and trying to blow air, but there is only a trace of hot air coming out the vents. If I move the dial back to the blue section(not in the defrost mode), the vents open back up and it blows hot air for a few seconds then starts to get cold. How can I get hot air to blow out the vents? Thanks for the help.

I'm no expert, just a shade tree hack
Anyway my climate control was acting up kind of like you have. I would have no fan at all in heat mode or if the control knob was turned to heat. Not even defrost unless it was in the blue zone. A/C would work as designed. My problem was a faulty push button unit. (PBU) There are several posts here on where to buy a rebuilt unit. What I did was pull my PBU and resolder all the connections. It brought it back to life. My uint has a rebuilt sticker on it and from the looks of the copper traces on the board the rebuild company just went over them with solder and reflowed all the pins. When this unit is in operation it get very HOT. I think over time the heat cracks the traces. |

Don't you think it would be helpful to tell us what year and model car you are working on? We can only assume that it is an MB.
Secondly, can you be more specific when you say "vents?" Typically there are four sets of "vents." The defrost vents, the center dash vents, the outside dash vents and the floor vents. Good luck, |

Sorry, it's an '84 300D.
The "vents" I am referring to are the defrost vents, inner/outer dash vents and floor vents. When the defrost is on, there is only a trace of hot air coming out of the defrost and outer dash vents. The same thing applies when I push the button for all vents and the button for the dash vents with the dial turned to warm or hot. When I turn the dial to cold, the vents open up and blow air. Let me know if you need me to descibe anything in more detail. Thanks Tim |
