85 190D trunk-lock mechanism
My "new" (to me) 85 190D came with a trunk-lock problem. The vacuum actuator lever was not connected to the trunk lock mechanism. The actuator seems to be fully operational--I can lock and unlock the doors by moving the actuator by hand, and vice versa. However, I can only unlock the trunk using the key, since the actuator is not connected to anything.
My question is, how is the actuator supposed to be hooked to the trunk lock. (Right now, the end of the actuator arm is hanging loose, hooked to nothing) The photos in the MB cd-manual are so dark I can't see anything (item 80-240). It looks like the actuator hook should fit over and attach to a small post in the lock mechanism, but that post is more oblong and I can't force the hook onto it. There may be a second post that is broken off (I can't tell) to which the hook should attach. I'm wondering if I just have to re-form the oblong post so it's round, or replace the whole mechanism. Does anyone have a clear image of what an operational trunk lock looks like? All suggestions would be appreciated. If it is the same as mine (most likely is), it has that black post like you said. It has no hole in it for a screw to go into. That is what pushes into the latch to open the trunk. When it's locked, that post moves off center and does not hit the latch when you push the button in. Pretty simple system, all most too simple.
It seems that your second post with a screw hole has broken. Mine did, but I used apoxy to fix it. It has worked for over 3 months now with normal use. The vaccum actuator arm screws into the missing black post. It's tough to fix without that post there.
