Did I do right on fluids?

Hi,

1980 240D w/231k 4spd

New to me, have no idea what is in there or when it was last changed so, before I head on a trip I thought I would take care of some stuf...

So, I am finally getting around to it, went to the parts store and got fluids (time crunch).

Rotella T 15w40 - engine (2gall)
Valvoline ATF Dextron 3 w/ Mercron - Manual Tranny(3 qts)
Valvoline SAE 80/90 Gear lube - differential(2qts)
Air Filter
Oil Filter
Diesel Purge stuff..

Cost me 48 bucks right there! OUCH!
Still have to get the 14mm alen wrench socket!

This going to do me?

Thanks,
-Kurt

Autozone has a 3-pack that has a 14mm in it for @$9. How about changing the brake fluid? Fairly easy and worthwhile. Just make sure its DOT4. Fuel filters? Get two of each so you got spares for the road. Fan belts? Coolant? I could go on and on.... RT

Kurt,

For gearbox oil, I would highly recommend Red Line MTL. It's a synthetic fluid and is what I use in my Triumph TR6's manny tranny. Really helps out on cold mornings.

Nope DOT 4 is for all disc brake cars... Has a higher boiling point.

I think the change interval is 2 years instead of 6-9 months with DOT 3 and drum brakes. I use DOT 4 in all my vehicles.
