'84 300d trans---help!!!
I have 1984 300D turbo. It is 3 speed automatic transmission. My transmission is not shifting from second to a third. All other gears are shifting smooth.
Vacuum is good, oil level is OK. Any idea what to look for. Thanks

This should be a four speed automatic transmission. Are you sure you have vacuum at the transmission modulator? I have seen the line come off and it not shift up through the gears.

Pull the wire from the kickdown solenoid, right rear of trans. This for sure eliminates the possibility of improper electronic kickdown.
To have a 4spd tranny unless something has been substituted.

My experience was that it would not shift out of first with the vacuum line off. At least try to get a vacuum gauge in the line that ties into the modulator (drivers side about mid-way of the tranny) and see what the vacuum signal is while you are driving it.

I chased similiar problems on our past diesels. When was the last time the trans had fluid and filter replaced? Also, the trans modulator vacuum could be the problem. Elsewhere on this site, some with I believe a 380SE improve their shifting by replacing the hard and brittle connector tube between the vacuum modulator and the plastic line going to it. Haasman
