weird turbo noise

Hi,

Lately I have been hearing an odd noise from my turbo. There is a usual whistle noise, at ~2500 or more when accelerating... It sounds just like someone whistling.

Lately though, I hear that, but there is also this sound that kind of sounds like a high pitched hiss. Almost like when letting air out of a tire, but more of a squeal type noise. (for lack of better explanation). It sounds like its coming from the front of the car, in the area of the glove box. But, its not heater or climate control related... The noise varies with engine speed and throttle position. I hear it going up after about 2100 RPM, then it quiets if I cruise steady state at ~53MPH, but any other speed below about 75, it is very audible.

I have no idea what this is, the air cleaner seems tight, feels tight, etc. The turbo C tube is tight on both sides. Teh small rubber tube that goes from one part of the turbo towards the top, to a lower place (dont know what it is really), has a minor crack at the connection, but it seems OK.

Any ideas, or suggestions? No oil is used, if thats a help on the turbo's health.

Thanks very much.

JMH

What about it? Is it broken, leaking, etc? Is this normal, or something I should look into?
Thanks

It's pretty normal to hear a high pitched whine or hiss from the turbo. I wouldn't worry.

Check the hose going from the wastegate actuator to the top of the turbo. I looks like it is 3/8 I.D. fuel hose. Mine was doing that when I test drove it before I bought it. Had the seller replace the hose, (watched him do it to make sure) and the noise went away.

I would say it's normal, I don't usually hear mine unless I have the sunroof open and the radio off. I can make mine do that by letting off the accelerator at about 30mph. I wouldn't worry about it.
