Lightbulb 300d transmission kickdown solenoid

hello all,

My kickdown circuit on my 83 300d keeps popping fuses (8a white). it doesn't pop any fuses until i mash the pedal for kickdown, at which point the trans kicks down and pops the fuse. first of all, where is the kickdown solenoid at? (literally, physicaly, where is it). I don't imagine it's the switch, as according to my schematic the switch just provides a switched 12v to the solenoid, which has a constant ground. I just need to know where it is so i can look at it. has anyone seen this before??

You're in luck. I had a tranny from a '83 model sitting out here in the shed. The solenoid you are asking about is located in the center of this shot. It is taken as if you were taking it from sitting in about the front passenger seat looking toward the rear of the engine/tranny.

thanks so much! by the way, are our tranny's supposed to downshift at anything other than full throttle (with kickdown switch engaged). my trans has never downshifted unless i put it all the way to the floor.
