How rare 300 turbo diesel w/5-speed manual

My neighbor just made a deal on a 300D with a 5 speed manual trans (so he says). Sounds great. How rare are these. Any feasible way to retrofit?

I have an 83 300TD-T and a 5 speed manual would be absolutely terrific.

Mike

I have a 240D with a 300 Turbo engine and a 4 speed manual. I changed the stock differential with a taller 1:2.81 from a 300Dt 1985. I cruise easily at 90 miles an hour.

I was told the North American market was supplied with automatic transmissions pretty much exclusively, but it is more common to have a manual transmission in Europe (my bil is a mechanic in Europe and he is amazed a diesel is coupled with an auto transmission). Any chance the car is European? Is the guage in km or miles?

I also would prefer a 5spd in my 300td, and I was told it can be done. But that is as far as I have explored the matter.

I don't believe that there were any 5-speed manual trannys mated to the turbodiesel 617 engine for production. But here's the kicker, I once happened across a 300CD coupe which was a FACTORY turbodiesel WITH 5-speed MANUAL! We even checked the VIN #s and the code led to manual tranny! Wish I'd have bought it. It was black too

Wow! 300CD-T with 5-speed manual. Must be quite a dream to drive. I wish my car had a 5-speed then 85mph cruising would be much much friendlier to the ears

1993 190 MBZ w/2.5 Diesel & 5 Speed Sportline

I bought a 1993 190E Sportline and converted it to a diesel. It hugs the road at 90MPH and is the coolest diesel I have driven.
