Wierd! Brake wear light on key off, no glow key on.

Well guys things just got really wierd!

1984 W201/190D 2.2

Yesterday after a hard rain here in Texas, I found my brake wear indicator light dimly lit when I entered the car, key off. When I turned the key, the preglow light didn't light off! The engine cranked, but would not start, it was obvious the glow plugs were not lighting off.

I found if I depressed the brake pedal prior to turing the key, the wear light gets brighter, and when I turn the key, the glow plugs now work, and the car starts!

I didn't have time to look at the wiring diagrams, I hope to do so tonight, I am stumped, any input would be appreciated.

Just went out and disconnected the front brake wear sensor wires at the fender connectors, no help.

Grrrr, Mack

Well, the rainy Texas days have been followed up with windy Texas days, and unusually dry air. I think the Benz must be happy about this, as the light went out, and everything has returned to normal! Now I just have to break the habit of stepping on the brake pedel prior to turning the key.

Well for what it's worth, my brake light comes on after I wash my car. When I wash it I spray water in the wheels until I don't see brake dust come out. It stays on until it dries. Because the time varies on how long it takes depending on how fast I am driving and how much braking I am doing.

The only GP problems I have had are dead plugs. Knock on wood.

I had something like this happen to my 300CD a few weeks ago, where the glow light wouldn't come on, but the other lights were coming on. I just walked away from the car and came back after a few hours and the problem was solved. My car just seems to do strange things like this time-to-time, but seems to always fix its self
