A Canadian version of Diesel Purge?? - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Do any of you fellow Canuckistans know of a product similiar to Diesel Purge that is available on this side of the border? I've got a wad of Crappy Tire money buring a hole in my pocket.

They don't sell Lubro Moly diesel Purge in Canada? I am sure you can find it if you have a good foriegn auto parts store in your area. You can also try and order some from Performance Products, but I am sure that could be expensive.

I looked around in a few places, then I was told you can't get it here (at least not in BC), so I quit looking. Does anyone know the distrubtor of this product, so I could call and ask them?

I could buy off ebay, but shipping would kill me

This would be a good excuse to go the the NW gtg this summer. I am sure there are a few of us on this side of the border that can hook you up with a few cans...

Does it say on the outside of the diesel purge can what the active ingredient is? Probably methyl hydrate....:p

I ordered my diesel purge on line (somewhere??--maybe Performance?). Are Canadians not allowed to do this or is it just the dismal state of the Canadian dollar that is inhibiting you from buying on this side of the border. I thought NAFTA made these cross-border transactions a little easier.

NAFTA only covers products manufactured in North America. This product is made in Germany I believe. In that case, I have to add on 80% to the price-- 60% exchange, 14.5% in federal and provincial taxes, and 6% duty. Plus shipping, which is usually quite high for liquids. Anyway, if I have to, I have to, I just thought there might be something equivalent and more readily available.

As I recall, it isn't all that far from Vancouver down to Bellingham. Surely you could find a copy of the Bellingham phone book and locate a place to buy this stuff.

I note that you do not necessarily live in Vancouver, though. Most of the population of BC lives near the border, but perhaps you do not. I would think that a clever person could simply dump several cans of this stuff into a gas can and smuggle it home. My guess is that no one looks for smuggled fuel additives.

Actually there are a few places in Bellingham that sell Diesel Purge, I just can't remember their names. One of the places is always selling MB parts and such on ebay.

Which I believe is near or next to Vancouver. But it is in BC, so some of those costs you cited are not a problem. As a matter of fact, the Diesel Purge is $Cdn 8.05 from them, which is a steal!!

Jim, thanks for doing that search, I love the guy at Hopefung! He's got a car like my Mary (73 280) so we kind of bonded.

Anyway, I started thinking today that I just kind of took his word for it when this guy told me you couldn't get Diesel Purge in Canada, so I started phoning around. I would have got to Hopefung eventually, but this obscure little European autoplace on my way home from work said they had it!! But only the kind that goes in the tank. When I asked about the kind that you use directly on the injectors, he said it was a waste of time because if you NEEDED it, it meant you needed the injectors replaced. It's just a prophylatic product to prevent problems, it won't do anything to improve things. What do you think of that? THat's not the impression I got from this board.

So, I was expecting it to be the LubroMoly stuff, but it was not. It's Mobul. He says it's from France and that in 'tests' its better than the LubroMoly.

There is no English on it at all, only French and German, but supposedly it Meilleure efficacite de la combustion , which sounds good :p I asked about water in the tank (see my other question on fuel filters) adn he said it would definitely help with that.

Has anyone used this product? BTW, it cost me $16! I'll go to Hopefung next time.

7% is the Gouge and screw tax, 7.5% is Provincial tax. But I don't mind really. Not when the provincial tax money is spent in such useful endeavors as Fast Ferries (cost 450 million to build, then were sold for scrap with the wrappers still on, for 19 million). And the federal money... well, that goes to our military.

How effective Lubro-Moly Diesel Purge will be for your car depends quite directly on what you are faced with in terms of problems. If there is a problem that is being caused by mechanical/dimensional deviations from design parameters in metal (missing metal, for example) parts, Lubro-Moly is not going to be much help.

If, on the other hand, the problem is clogged prechamber orifices, clogged with the by-products of poor combustion, or low grade nozzle spray patterns caused by carbon deposits from combustion problems in an around the nozzle critical surfaces, possibly caused by poor quality fuel, or even deposits on valves or the piston rings, preventing effective seating, then Lubro-Moly Diesel Purge can be helpful. These kinds of problems are not uncommon, and there are many fuel additives/products used by those of us frequenting this site. I use RedLine's Diesel Catalyst year round, and add Power Service Winterizing product when the temps are under 30*F.

I have never used the stuff you bought, and do not speak French so I can't help much translating the French claims of the product's benefits. I could help translate the German though.

If you think you have water and algae in your tank, I second the recommendation that you drain it, clean it and then run some algae control/killing additives through the tank. If you don't address the algae problem directly it will not go away. I could cite some analogies from highschool health class but will restrain myself. Once you have the system clean, keep it that way with regular use of additives to chemically absorb water, and improve combustion. Also, learn to avoid fuel stations with slow turn over of their Diesel stock.
