e300 left lane, 323 in the right lane.....
Had a go at it from two red lights on the way home today with a 323 . Very, very pleasing outcome. Sorry BMW fans, the TD took the 3 down with ease. I know the 3 base 6 is weak but the hp rating is about the same as my "big puff."

I'm glad you clarified that. For a second I though you meant a Mazda 323. I had two of those in the 80's.
Stoplight derbies with this car are soooo much fun. Leave them choking in a cloud of Diesel smoke going "What the heck was that?"

Hey guys,
I have to agree it is awesome to be able to drive a Diesel that actually adds "acceleration" to its list of strengths. I have also startled a few challengers expecting to walk away from the car. What is really great is you can typically double the time between fill-ups of most cars while you are literally smoking them off the line. In my youth I used to challenge guys with big V-8's to race across the country and back against my 1975 240D since I knew I would get crushed in a quarter mile or any other race with less than few tanks of gas in duration. Some of those cars were really quick off the line (one kid could eject an 8-Track cassette from his dash player just by stomping on the gas) but you could watch the gas gage drop whenever you pushed them. So, I figured once I got to my 75 or 80 mph, chances are they were getting 3 or 4 mpg while I was enjoying near 30mpg. So they would make lots of stops, and those fast starts, while I did my turtle thing to beat their hare impersonation. Never got any takers. 8-Track cassettes, now there is something that dates me. Jim

And, it is fun taking the car from 60 to over 100 on the fwy too. Steady as a rock, not straining at all.

Yes, from a standstill with foot to the floor I do get some smoke. Not an awful lot, but enough to notice.
And yes, highway performance is unbelieveable. I have to be careful with that or it gets me in trouble.

My 300D is no 1/4 mile champ, but it does haul a$$ on the interstate. Enough to get a few stares when going flat out in the left lane.
