passenger side window problems

How do I check if the motor for the passenger side window is working and how do i check for problems with the regulator. Also how can I safely remove the motor and regulator while keeping the glass secure? thanks I've got the door panel off already.

Before you take everything apart, I would unhook the wires from the motor and test them to see if any voltage is present when you push the switch. If no voltage than your switch may be bad.

If voltage is present, than maybe your motor is bad or your regulator is stuck? It is made out of pot metal and will warp out of shape over time making the gears lose contact or eventually the regulator will snap from the torque.

You can undo the regulator and pull the glass. You can remove the motor and test it to see if it is seized.

I've had to replace two broken window regulators before. The lack of grease on the linkage over time causes a lot of stress on them.

I have never had to replace a motor. I wonder if they are rebuildable? I would imagine so. They are sort of hard to get at if I remember correctly.

I've replaced lots of switches before. They go bad more often than the motors.

There are four wires which are attached to this one small assembly in the door that come out of the door is this for the window? I don't think its the switch because I replaced them fairly recently. Do i need a voltmeter to test the wires out though because i don't have one? Is there something else i could test it with?

You should go right now to the auto parts store and pick yourself up a voltmeter and a vacuum pump. You will be in heaven with these two tools.

You really can't diagnose any electrical components without a voltmeter unless you want to start switching parts out from one side to the other. I think the window motor is the only thing you could really do that with anyway.

It will save you tons of money in the long run because you won't be replacing perfectly good parts because they 'might' be bad.

I've looked at his sight many times. I just cannot tell how to get the regulator and motor out without the glass falling. I duct taped the glass and removed the three bolts holding the reg/motor in place I just don't know how to remove them.

Send Thomas an e-mail asking for more info. You can also break a few cheap plastic bits to get everything out since they are available, Just get them beforehand.
