Head-on 40MPH collision!!!
Friday I was returning home. The roads were wet. And a honda was going the wrong way on a one-way street. I
I was rounding the corner, and when i saw her, it was too late. I locked up my brakes, skidded for about a second before the impact. Police rated the impact at 40mph. When we hit, my head hit my vanity mirror and crushed it. As my car came to a stop, I watched as her Honda bounced off and spun 100ft away. It all happened so fast. There was nothing I could do. Her new 2-door red Civic was CREAMED. Nothing left of the front end. Pretty much everything on the front was ripped off. Engine destroyed. Seeing this, I was sure my front end was fouled beyond beleif as well. I got out, noticed my door edge trim laying on the ground. Walked around front, and this is what I saw.

I went to get an estimate. They are suggesting about $3,000 for a new signal lense, hood, bumper, fender, and vanity mirror.
If this isn't a TESTAMENT to these cars, I don't know what is. An 18 year old car in a 40mph head on impact, getting minimal damge while destroying a new Civic, wow. And I walked away without scratches. Eric

I am extremely surprised how little damage was done to the TD, considering that civic was 100% totaled like that. This proves yet again that these are the safest damn cars on the road! I'm glad no one was seriously injured. Good luck with the car.

That's amazing. However, I wouldn't say these cars are safe just because your car suffered minimal damage. Logically it would be the opposite. The purpose of designing cars so that the front gets smashed is to absorb the energy of the impact. I wonder what would happen if you hit a brick wall at 40 mph. Or maybe your MB didn't get crushed because the Civic is a lot lighter? Either way, it totally sucks to get your car damaged by a stupid driver. Good thing you're ok.

Oh, OOOooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the V. mirror was what got crushed. So there were actually 2 bouts on the card. MB VS.Honda MB scored a Knock out in 1:20. Head VS V.Mirror. Head scored a TKO in .005 Seriously , glad to know that you are alright and are a living testimony to us all . Your experience is the definitive answer to the "what to buy Jr. for his first car" question. |

Yes, the honda sacrificed its front end to save its driver, this idea worked out just as honda designed it. However, the MB didnt have to sacrifice much to achieve the same level of protection. (in this circumstance) (this is totally ignoring the issue that "the mb owner can have his car economically repaired [whether or not the insurance co. agrees], the Honda owner cannot") My opinions only -John
