Should I Replace The Windshield ?

My 1998 E300's windshield was hit by a rock on the way home from work yesterday. The result was a dime sized crack at the two o'clock position while sitting in the drivers seat. I called my insurance company and setup to have the windshield repaired. Fella came out and attempted the repair. When completed, the crack was still very noticable. I have had other windshields repaired and once completed, I could hardly tell. This is not the case on this vehicle. I called the insurance company back and explained. They said so ahead and have the windshield replaced. This leaves me with two questions.

1. Should I have it replaced or live with the blemish ?

2. If the answer is to replace, I notice the windshield has a Mercedes logo in the lower left corner. Should I specify a Mercedes replacement, or is all glass created equally?

Whether or not you replace it is a decision only you can make.

If you DO replace it MAKE SURE you find someone who has put a windshield in one of these cars before. They have to know how to use a piece of plastic to help slide the glass down under the monowiper.

I saw one that was torn into a million pieces by a glass man. This is not a person you want doing mechanical work on your car. A knowledgable glass man will slide the glass under the wiper without taking ANYTHING apart.

Good luck,
