Why is there smoke under my hood?

Well, this is a new one on me.

I was actually working on the sunroof and checking the torque.
I had the key in 2, engine off, and I noticed idle speed adjusting wire that goes to the dash was smoking (under the hood).

It was too hot to the touch. I felt around everywhere else on the linkage, but nothing else was hot.

(my first guess is that a wire is touching the glow plug wires)

Is this something simple? Or did I do something wrong?

Angry Oops!

That was the magic smoke. You let it out and now I'll bet that there's something that doesn't work on your car.

dieseldiehard

You figured it out, I want to thank you!

The ground strap was loose.
I am used to working on cars, but sometimes this car makes me feel stupid.

I had the problem with a cracked battery clamp on a different car.
It had the rubberized type of paint on it, so you couldnt see the crack.

The car would run fine if jumped, but wouldnt start.
What a nightmare that was. It died at a gas station and I was in my swimtrunks. Classy.

Last night I did the motor mounts, my next project is replace the center bearing.

So you all havent heard the last of me...
