Help, Help, Help! What the....?
'82 240D will not shut off.
Puddle of tranny fluid under the car(bellhousing) Tranny shifts fine when warm Beyond normal sluggishness on take-off when cold, engine revs high. Seems to be slipping. Where in the car do I place the explosives to achieve maximum satisfaction? |

There is a nice little trough between the engine and the injection pump... which catches tools when trying to change the glowplugs without taking off the injector lines.. That is my vote...
On the other hand,,, you might consider this a good excuse to 'Ridge' your car... either just a manual trans.... or 300 engine and manual trans.... |

Front transmission seal. Cheap part, a little bit of a job to install.(Visualize pulling the transmision). The shut off could be either a leaky vauum line, or loose vacuum line, or the shut off on the rear of the IP is bad.
Take a vacuum pump and pull a vacuum on the shut off. If the engine just slows down, but does not shut off, you will need to replace that part. Ir it shuts down easily then there is a vacuum problem, of which there are many possibles. I say a nice charge should do it, correctly placed it could end the suffering quickly. |

The Army method for vehicle destruction is to place the charge at the rear of the engine on top of the bell housing.

In the big cities back east you just leave the car parked on the "South side" (or whatever is appropriate) over the weekend.
Then insurance takes care of the replacement. Dieseldiehard. |
