My 81 300SD has developed a case of the hot idle shakes. I tried to cure it with Diesel Purge, some improvement, but quickly got worse.
I put a new timing chain in a few months back, and set the timing using start of delivery method. That helped some, but not cured.
So I installed new motor mounts last week. Marginal improvement. This last weekend I installed new engine shocks, and then another round of Diesel Purge.
The interesting thing is that when I was running the car with the Diesel Purge the idle was smooth. No miss, no shakes. Then I completed running two cans through there and reinstalled the fuel lines. Within two miles the idle miss returned. Although with the new engine shocks in place it is only slightly felt.
Do you think I have a bad injector? I have another set of used injectors sitting around. Maybe I should find which is the problem and just swap it out. Kind of annoying in that I had this set rebuilt at an Injector Rebuild Service less than 25k ago.
