That's what I was told I have when I asked someone where to put the drive shaft when I unscrewed it to access the pinion seal. However, it didn't move. What is the trick?
I didn't undo the axle shafts, I just put Hilda in gear and rolled her back and forth over the pit we've got at the farm (Damn, I love a work pit!) to access all the bolts.

I believe you need to loosen the large nut at the spline near the center bearing to get it to move.

Driveshaft removal?
sohj,
If I understand you correctly, you're trying to remove the driveshaft and have undone the bolts holding the flex discs. To get the driveshaft free from the yoke at either end, you must take a small crowbar or a large screwdriver and pry the yoke and flex disc apart. There's a small cylindrical shaft that is pressed into the receptacle inside the flex disc. Most of the time the splined area will compress enough without having to loosen the large nut on it. Whatever you do mark both ends of the shaft before removing in case it accidentally comes apart. They are balanced as a set and if reassembled differently will be out of balance. If you're taking the shaft out of the car, once the support bearing is loose, the shaft will slide right out to the rear. Ben

Yes, but don't try collapsing it with a pry bar BEFORE you loosen the big nut.
Good luck, |

Thanks all for your replies. I'm going to give it another shot next weekend.
