300SD electrical / ignition / starter question

Bought the car a day ago. Excess wires were going everywhere thus some shorts. I removed all the junk and now the starter doesn't even try.

There was a Bosch relay hanging under the dash, but it seemed to have been added and went to some type of alarm and stereo, all of which I removed.

Is the relay required? or Where do I go from here to trobleshoot the issue.

Thank you
Don

The relay may have been part of a PO installed anti theft system. My 300SD has one. Removing the relay may have disconnected the connection to the starter solonoid (SS). You might have to run another wire from the key switch to the SS or possibly connect some of the wires that went to the relay you removed.

To trouble shoot you will have to find the wire on the key switch that originally went to the SS and find the wire that goes to the SS and connect the two together.

You really can't just disconnect wires and relays and expect everything to work properly.
