Oil comsumption or leakage...

Ok after hours of reading back messages on this forum, I hope that it's ok to ask these questions.
ok so 3 months ago I bought an 81 300SD Turbo. I like this car very much, it has good power and it passed its pre-purchase inspection from a reputable shop. It did have some oil leaks at the time of purchase, however the engine was so oily that it was difficult to tell where it was coming from. SO now I 've had teh valvecover gasket replaced with all 17 rubber parts, and the valves adjusted, and the engine steam cleaned. This car had just under 300,000 when I bought it, it now has 300,500 or so. it was using oil when I bought it, but it seems to have increased some over the past few months, (or maybe I wasn't paying close enough attentiona t first, but I think I was) It loses almost a quart of oil or more when I drive for 15-20 miles at high speeds ie on freeway, over 55 mph. I've taken it back to the mechanic and they think it may be the turbo seals, however another mechanic I took it to said he thought the o rings were shot, so the engine or at least the short block needs to be redone. THe top end was rebuilt 1-2 years before I bought the car. NOw I have to check the oil daily, and if I drive it on the freeway, i have to add oil daily also. Any recommendations, would be appreciated. I have some limited mechanical ability, and I don't want to get snowed by these mechanics.
